It is with great sadness we inform the SUFC community of the passing of former player, Red O’Connor.

Red, a fine clubman, permanent member of the Front Row Brotherhood, and great bloke, died suddenly while on a kayaking trip last weekend.

Red who grew up in Croppa Creek near Moree, attended St Joseph’s College before joining the Students in 1981. He went on to play 186 Club games over a 16-year career in the blue and gold. Of the 186, 22 where in 1st Grade. Red was part of Tony Abbott’s Premiership winning 4th Grade team in 1986, the Club’s first Premiership since 1972.

One of Uni’s stalwarts and faithful old boys taken too soon. Our deepest condolences go to his wife, Jackie, their four children and the rest of the O’Connor family.
