The eyes of the world this week were focused on Singapore for the summit meeting between Donald J. Trump of the free world and Kim Jong-un of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea. The historic gathering could also be seen as a bad hair day meeting.
But following a short break what matters most during a Sydney winter kick starts again this Saturday when University continue their Shute Shield campaign against the 2017 premiers- the Warringah Rats. All the colour, tension and dramas associated with premier rugby will be on show at the citadel Rat Park Warriewood where another titanic battle will be on show.
There is also yet another Ladies Day scheduled for Rat Park. There must be an attraction for the opposition when University play them. Could it be our sporting talents or just to see a distant member of the Royal family Nick Champion de Crespigny mix with the commoners? Whatever it is expect a big crowd this Saturday.
The Students are travelling at the top of the table with Northern Suburbs breathing down their necks. In fact, collectively the entire club and our sisters the Women’s XV have all contributed to the clubs lead in the club championship. Great work to everyone at the club who has contributed to this.
The season so far has also highlighted some serious emerging talent at the club. Young players such as Will McDonnell, Daniel Poletto and Guy Porter are playing with confidence and skill beyond their ages in their debut first grade season. The forward pack led by number eight and Captain the mór leprechaun Rohan O’Regan, are shunting opposition packs and providing the ideal foundations for the quicksilver backs to score some spectacular tries.
With nine rounds of the regular season remaining the season is far from over. A few injuries, representative call ups or in the case of James Kane a Hollywood contract, the momentum can change faster than Kim Kardashian’s Twitter feed. Remain focused is the catch cry of coaches Taylor and Horn-Smith – there’s more work to be done.
Until this Saturday, fill up your vehicle tanks at #134.9 and make the trek to the northern beaches to support the blue and gold hoops.
Up the Students!
