Congratulations Nick Champion de Crespigny – Wallaby #991 and SUFC Wallaby #113

Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) proudly congratulates Nick Champion de Crespigny on his historic debut for the Wallabies, becoming Wallaby #991 and the 113th SUFC player to don the gold jersey.

Nick made his Test debut on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, facing off against the mighty British & Irish Lions in the opening match of the highly anticipated three-Test series.

A Journey of Grit and Determination

Nick’s path to the Wallabies has been anything but conventional. A proud SUFC product and Canberra Grammar School alumnus, he honed his craft in the Shute Shield before taking his talents overseas to France’s Top 14 with Castres. His return to Australia in 2025 to join the Western Force proved pivotal, with standout performances earning him national selection.

Initially named in the squad for the Fiji Test, Nick didn’t take the field—but his moment came against the Lions. With Rob Valetini sidelined, Nick was handed the number six jersey and seized the opportunity with both hands.

A Debut to Remember

In front of a roaring Brisbane crowd, Nick delivered a tireless 66-minute performance, leading the Wallabies with 17 tackles, the third-highest of the match. His physicality, work rate, and breakdown presence were instrumental in keeping Australia competitive against a dominant Lions outfit.

Despite the 34–26 loss, Nick’s debut was a shining light. Speaking after the match, he reflected:

“It was a very special week. Running out there, seeing my friends and family, all of this crowd and the Lions supporters—it was a great experience. It’s the pinnacle of rugby. I really enjoyed it, loved every moment”

A Proud Moment for SUFC

Nick’s debut continues SUFC’s proud tradition of producing Wallabies. His elevation to the national team is a testament to his perseverance, character, and the strong rugby foundations built at Sydney Uni.

We look forward to watching Nick continue to grow in the gold jersey and inspire the next generation of SUFC players.

Congratulations, Nick! Your SUFC family is incredibly proud.
