SUFC can confirm we will be heading to Japan in September to participate in the 2019 World University Rugby Invitation Tournament (WURIT). The Club is honoured to have been invited to participate in a tournament which features some of the most prestigious universities and leading rugby nations from around the world.
The tournament was first established in 2015 when Oxford University held the inaugural WURIT to coincide with the Rugby World Cup in England. This was the first ever University World Cup for rugby and saw 8 teams from around the world compete. Oxford have since past the baton on to Waseda University to host this exciting competition for the second edition.

The tournament will span over 4 days with two pool groups before a knockout finals system. Throughout the trip there will be plenty of time for the group to explore Tokyo, soak up the Japanese culture, immerse themselves in the World Cup atmosphere and of course play some great rugby.
This really will be an opportunity of a lifetime for the players. To help with the funds required to get the team to Japan we will be hosting a number of fundraising events throughout the year. To kick start the campaign we have set up a go fund me page which you can contribute to.

SUFC is hoping to take a tour party of 30 players to compete and likely tour dates are 15th – 25th September. More details on fundraising events and the tour itinerary will be shared over the coming months if any of our supporters would like to join us.
