Sydney University 4th Grade and 1st Colts kept the blue and gold flag flying during the first six rounds of the Sydney Premier Rugby Union season.

With a third of the competition behind them, 4th Grade and 1st Colts lead their respective competitions, while all other teams have had mixed starts to the season, leaving the club in fifth place on the coveted Gregor George Cup ladder for the Club Championship.

Eastwood head the Club Championship on 1017 points, with Warringah (971), Northern Suburbs (950) and Randwick (882) making up the top four in a changing of the guard ahead of Sydney University on 873 points.

Sydney University 1st Grade opened the Shute Shield season with a 25-16 win over Eastern Suburbs at Sydney University Football Ground, but it proved to be a false dawn.

Manly hosted Sydney University in Round 2 and ran out 36-10 winners at Manly Oval in a six try to one thumping, and Randwick made life tougher at Coogee Oval the following week when they scored late to earn a 28-27 result.

The Students suffered a third consecutive loss when they ventured to Eridge Park, Bowral, to take on Northern Suburbs in their Round 4 match. Norths ran in six tries to three in the 41-24 result.

Sydney University returned to the winner’s list in Round 5 with a 47-21 win over Gordon at Sydney University Football Ground, and backed that up with a 52-21 result over Penrith last weekend at Nepean Rugby Park.

The eighth-placed Students will meet fourth-placed Warringah at Sydney University Football Ground this Saturday.

Manly and defending premiers Northern Suburbs remain unbeaten after six rounds to head the Shute Shield ladder on 30 points, with the sea-siders leading on the for and against quotient.

Eastwood and Warringah are locked on 22 points, with Randwick (20) and Southern Districts (17) making up the top six. Gordon (17) and Sydney University (15) are still in touch with a third of the season behind them.

Sydney University 2nd Grade are fourth on the Colin Caird Shield ladder on 22 points, with Warringah (25), Gordon (25) and Eastwood (23) ahead of them.

The 3rd Grade Henderson Shield ladder is headed by Warringah on 27 points, with Eastwood (26), Gordon (26), Randwick (26), Northern Suburbs (20) and Sydney University (19) making up the top six.

Gordon head the 4th Grade Henderson Cup ladder on 30 points, with Eastwood (25), Sydney University (25), Northern Suburbs (22), Warringah (20) and Manly (17) making up the top six.

In the Colts ranks, Sydney University 1st Colts are unbeaten in the W. McMahon Shield, with Eastwood, Randwick, Southern Districts, Warringah and Eastern Suburbs making up the top six.

Sydney University 2nd Colts are eighth on the Shell Trophy ladder that is headed by Randwick, while Sydney University 3rd Colts are second behind Eastwood on the Bill Simpson Shield ladder.
