The Sydney University Football Club community congratulates former SUFC player and Member of the Friends of SUFC, Ian Jackman SC on his appointment as a Federal Court judge.
Barrister Ian Jackman, SC, is one of three new judges for the Federal Court after the Albanese government filled a raft of judicial vacancies on Thursday.
Mr Jackman will be joined on the Federal Court, which has produced the past five High Court justices, by two judges moving from other courts – Catherine Button, KC, of the Victorian Supreme Court and Geoffrey Kennett, SC, of the ACT Supreme Court.
Mr Jackman, a highly regarded commercial silk and legal author, became a barrister in 1989 and took silk in 2002, the same year he represented businessmen Rodney Adler at the HIH royal commission. Other notable clients include Optus (against Telstra) and PwC in a sexual discrimination case brought by former partner Christina Rich.
More recently he represented insurers in COVID-19 business interruption cases in the Federal Court and the High Court. He will join the NSW registry of the court on February 6 as the replacement for Justice Jayne Jagot, who was elevated to the High Court in October.
