Did you know:
That since Rugby started at the University back in 1863, only 28 players have played 150 games or more for the Club. Last Saturday one of the Club’s favourite sons became our 29th, that being Aldy King who has been at the club for 11 seasons, from 2008 – 2018. Aldy along with brother Hamish 2002 – 2012, father Peter 1971 –1981 and grand father Ian Sinclair 1947 -1952 all play for SUFC for a total of 383 Club games, 128 of these in the 1st XV, which all 4 of them played in.
Between these 4 gentleman we have a Rhode Scholar, a Leader of the National (Country) party in Federal Parliament for more then three decades. A Club Captain, Club President and 3 Rugby Blues in 1951 (Ian), 1973 (Peter) and 2013 (Aldy). I’m sure there is a lot more records between the Kings. Congratulations to third generation Aldy King, let’s hope he can get that extra 17 games for the family 400!
James Kane keeps scoring and keeps passing milestones, with his 2 tries and 2 goals verses Easts he reached 750 career points now on 761. He also scored the clubs 300th try this season. He brought up his 150th 1st Grade career point, (140th for the season) and is now on exactly 150 points for this season (all grades). James also only needs 1 more try for 60 career tries and 300 points just with 5 pointers.
Up with James is Max Robson from 1st Colts who passed his 150 club point for 2018, with a try and 3 goals in 1st Colts win over Easts last Friday night. Max is now the leading try scorer in Colts on 12, but has three players right behind him on 11.
During round 12, former ball-boy Maxie Miller scored a try in 3rd Colts. The only other former ball-boy I am aware of doing this is Will Wennerbom who has 151 points in Grade this season.
Tolu Latu played his 50th Super Rugby game last weekend against the Sunwolves.
While for the second time this season Uni players have scored nearly half the points for the Waratahs in the 77-25 victory. Israel Folau 2 tries, Nick Phipps 1 try and Bernie Foley 7 goals and a pen goal for 32 points. The record is 33.
Uni has scored 17 penalty tries this season. The breakdown is Grade 15 and Colts 2. Our 1st XV has 7 of those 15, penalty tries is our third highest scorer reaching its own century on the weekend.
Last Friday nights 1st Grade’s win was our 13 win at home out of 14 verses Easts which started back on 16th April 2005.
