Did you know:
That on the 27 April 1918, (100 years ago this Friday) SUFC were still fielding three teams, even though there was no Competition at the time due to World War I.They played every second Saturday with “Military training” on the alternative Saturday. On this date our University “A” team beat Newtown-Northern Suburbs 25-3 at No.1 Oval, University “B” team drew 9-9 with Glebe-Balmain at Sydney Grammar School No.1 Oval and our University “C” team lost to 3-26 to Manly at Manly Oval.
One week after our round against Penrith, it was great to see the “Emu’s” win 4th grade verses Gordon 5-0. Congratulations to them.
Four players had their first game this season against Wests on SUFG. They were George Hudd, Lachlan Argiris, James Armstrong and Harry Johnson-Holmes. Welcome back!
Our 1st Grade team had 5 Waratah squad members on Saturday, they were Matt Sandell, Tolu Latu, Lachlan Swinton, Brad Wilkin, Harry Johnson-Holmes, plus former Waratah Dave McDuling.
Grade and Colts have played a total of 21 games so far this season, they have 21 wins, 21 bonus points and haven’t conceded any bonus points against them!
Next Saturday down at Bowral our 1st Grade Captain Rohan O’Regan will run on for his 50th Club game.
A few milestones were reached last Saturday, Cameron Lawrence scoring another 4 tries (that’s 11 in 2 games) he had his tenth by half time, which was only 90 minutes work for those figures. In doing so he pasted his 700th career point at Uni. He was the scorer of the Clubs 50th try in Round 2 and one week later he became the owner of the Clubs 100th try. The best stat Cameron has achieved so far is he is now on 74 tries from 74 games WOW! He is also only one behind Nick Hagen’s lower grade record of 75 in 122 games from 2000 till 2006.
Stu Dunbar reached his 300th career point with 9 goals in 3rd Grades 80-0 victory.
Jack Stanford and Ed L’Estrange, both reached their 150th career points with a try each in 3rd Grade win.
Will Wennerbom, is now on 75 points in only the three games played so far in 2018. On Saturday in front of proud parents and brother Kit (still celebrating his 18th birthday) Will scored a try and kicked 6 goals.
