Did you know:
While sitting at home on Saturday morning and not travelling to Mudgee, I came across an unusual stat. While it’s not compulsory to have a goal kicker in your team every week, the 2011 1st XV had ten goal kickers that season. In order of kickers from Round one to the Grand Final they were: Dan Kroll (Rd 1), Eddie Bredenham (Rd 2) Dan Kelly Jr (Rd 3), Angus Roberts (Rd 4 & 5), Alex Rokobaro (Rd 6), Daniel Halangahu (Rd 7,8,9 & 10), Dave Dillon (Rd 11), Bernard Foley (also Rd 11) Chris Malone (Rd 12,13, 14 & 15), Berrick Barnes (Rd 16,17,18,19,20,21,22, Semi Finals & Grand Final). Not only pretty good goal kickers, but great all round players with 2 wallabies and 5 Super Rugby players amongst the top ten.
1st Grade’s win over the Woodies was our 4th highest score ever, in the two club’s 74-year history and 144 games. It was the second time in three matches that Uni has scored a new match aggregate of 93 beating the 2009 team who had 88.
While trying to find the quickest 100 by a senior player over coffee on Saturday, it became near impossible that any senior player has reached 100 in 3 games. I shall check David Croft’s feat again, as he did score 5 centuries in his time in 1st grade.
Which brings me back to Hamish Cressey, 1st Colts Outside Centre. He needed 11 points for his 100, and kicked 6 goals to reach his century for the season. He is now on 7 tries and 33 goals for 101 points.
I did find two lower grade players who reached their 100 points in 5 games. They were Will Wennerbom on 5.5.2018, 101 points and Cameron Lawrence on 12.5. 2012, 104 points.
Back to last weekend Charlie Hancock and Stefano Hunt both ran on for their 50th Club game. Congratulation’s boys.
Next week Harrison Blake and Dan Poletto will reach the same feat verses Penrith.
A couple more milestones last weekend with Declan Moore scoring two more tries for the THIRD week in a row and is now 2nd highest point scorer in 1st Grade on 30 points with Ben Hughes just in front on 33. Declan first try made it the 50th try for our club this season.
When Henry Clunies-Ross scored his try, it took him past 350 career points, and now sits on 352.
Both our 1st Grade and 1st Colts are first on their respected ladders and remain undefeated after 3 rounds.
