Did you know:
1st Grade’s win on Saturday was our 100th verses Gordon, and it was our 75th home game against them as well. The last time we lost to Gordon at home was on the 13.5.2000, 19 years and 15 wins in a row at home.
1st Grade also had their 11th win in row at our new ground (SUFG).
In doing so Uni wrapped up the Minor Premiership, only our 11th since Shute Shield began 95 years ago. We ended up winning the Club Championship by 250 points and got ALL teams in the finals series. Easts were the only other club to get all seven sides in.
Congratulations must go to James Kane who brought up his 200 1st Grade points with the last try and goal of the game. Now on 201 1st Grade points and 211 club points so far. James becomes only the 7th player since 1863 to reach 200 points, and the first since Daniel Halangahu in 2009.
We already have five centurions in Grade, but could get another 4 before the season is over. They are Cameron Lawrence (95), Ben Carolan (86), Mitch Whiteley and Sam Renton both on (83). While Sam Begbie in Colts is on (95).
I would like to congratulate our 1st Colts XV in making the semi’s. You see they were ninth some six weeks back and came back with 5 bonus point wins from the last six games to come in fifth place. Well done Boys!
To the supporters/players and parents that don’t know, 3rd Colts have made the semi finals for the 24th year in a row, 1st Colts 22 in a row, 2nd Colts 20 years in a row and 4th Grade 16 years in a row.
Ten players scored in 1st Grade’s big win. We scored 39 tries in Grade by 33 different players. There were six players who got a double.
Some notable scorers were Will Wennerbom who got 16 points in 3rd Grade then a further 13 in 2nd Grade (29), Sam Renton (24), James Kane (21) and Ben Carolan (20). Ben Carolan has now scored a try in all four grades this season. On Saturday he got 2 in 3rd grade went on in 2nd Grade and got another and then went on in 1st Grade and got his 4th for the day. He now has 16, pretty good for a Hooker!
Our 3rd Grade reached their 100th try this season when Ben Carolan scored his 2nd try.
Sam Renton (pictured) was going along nice with his points in 2nd Grade with 2 tries and 7 goals which brought his career points to 393. Then was hooked for Will Wennerbom, who took over the kicking duties, this week Sammy!
Harrison Blake scored 2 tries and brought up the Club’s 400th try this season and Harrison’s 150th career points at Uni. We finished the day with 423 tries.
Being an ex-halfback, we stick together, on Saturday Banjo Travers, Dan Calavassy and Theo Strang all scored their career 30th try of 150 career points.
Tom Gilbert went over for his 20th and 100 career points, since his Colts days.
Finally some 2nd Grade trivia, the team have used 16 different goal kickers this season.
