Did you know:
That for the 15th year in a row we have won the Club Championship, the blue ribbon event of each season. Congratulations to all of us.
We have debuts and we have 1st Grade debuts, but an unlikely little guy ran on late in the game. You see this player is 32 years of age and made a comeback at Uni this season after a 6 year gap. He went and played with Easts for a bit and played some League as well as travel. He is Cameron Lawrence who after 85 Club games ran on for number 86, his first in the main game. Cameron was with us from 2010- 2013 and now again in 2018. He knew he had unfinished business with 64 tries in just 71 games. Cameron is now on 83 tries from 86 games and is only 6 points short of 600 career points. He is also on 19 tries or 95 points for this current season. He is currently the 4th highest try scorer in the clubs history. Somehow I think he may get those 6 points on Saturday at SUFG.
James Kane picked up 2 tries and 4 goals verses the Wicks, which took him past 800 career points now on 801. James is on 180 1st grade points this season plus 10 in 2nd Grade gives him 190 total points this year so far.
Last week I spoke about two players going for their 200 points for the season. Well I thought Will Wennerbom would be the first to do it as he’s been playing in the 4th grade team. But he was taken back to Colts to play and missed his chance. Sad thing is he kicked a goal and penalty goals for 1sts Colts. Maybe this week. His offsider in this was Max Robson who reached his 200 in Colts but only just. He kicked a goal in 2nds Colts then went on as a replacement in 1st Colts were he put a penalty over to bring up his 200 points. The first player this season to reach this milestone, Let’s hope Wennerbom and Kane follow Max against Gordon this weekend at home
When Stu Dunbar sliced thru to score under the posts at Coogee Oval he scored the 100th try for the 1st XV this year.
Next Saturday Matt Narracott shall run on for his 50th Club game, which includes 56 career tries since his Colts days.
Penalty tries reach its 150 points with two more last weekend, one each in the 1st and 2nd grade teams.
Josh King scored his 30th career try to bring his personal 150 points. While Lachlan Argiris finally reached his career 100 points since Colts in 2015, with a try.
Sam Renton got his 50th Club point in 2nd Grade on Saturday.
A couple of our players have scored more tries this year than previous since joining SUFC. They are Mitch Whiteley who now has scored 14 in his 5th year at SUFC and Ben Carolan has scored 12, his best in three seasons at Uni.
