Did you know…….

That I had a text message to ask when was the last Uni had just two teams in a Grand Final, one Grade and one Colts. So I started looking through the years, as we haven’t always been a successful club. And I found it was 1991 when we had no teams make a Grand Final. In fact that year we had no teams make the Semi Finals.

We dropped a few games on the weekend with the Ladies team beaten by Eastern Suburbs for their first Premiership in the John Scott competition by 17-22. Our 3rds lost to Eastwood with a sideline conversion right on fulltime by 22-24. And 4th grade after being down 0-17 at halftime lost 12-17 to Manly.

While 2nds beat Gordon 31-7 to head to Grand Final along with the1st Grade Colts team who beat Eastwood 57-29 to meet Warringah for the first in a Grand Final this Sunday at Concord Oval.

Two of our Colts could reach their 100 points for the season with Joey Fowler on 99 points and Jack Matthews on 94, good luck to both men.

A little bit about SUFC 2nd XV history.

The 2nd grade team since 1874 have won just 20 Premierships in 149 seasons.

In fact they have had huge gaps between winning competitions, like won in 1924, next premiership was 1937, then from 1937 next was 1960 a 23 year gap, then next was 1966 then again not till 1983 were another 17 past and finally 20 years later we won in 2003. So from 1900 2nds have won 15 premiership and been Runners Up 10 times or since 1924, ninety nine years ago we have only won 8 premiership.

Some stats on the Colts over the years. Since 1980 (43 years) this Sunday will be our 23rd appearance in the Grand Final. We have won on 16 occasions, 5 times undefeated, 11 times Runners up. From 2002 till 2017, we played in every Grand Final.

To our two sides alive this weekend good luck, and make sure people know Uni is still a force.
