We have produced another Wallaby Captain (the 87th) for Australia, and SUFC now has had 14 of that total. Former Captains are Billy Sheehan, John Solomon, Dick Tooth, Nick Farr-Jones, Phil Waugh, H.M.Moran, D.B. Loudon, A.C.Wallace, Tom Lawson, Alec Ross, Phil Hardcastle, Peter Johnson, John Thornett and now Will Skelton. Six of the above names were Doctors.
After last weekends games we can still win 5 Premierships. Teams to play this week are 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade 1st grade Colts and the Womens team will meet Easts in the Grand Final.
It will be Easts first time in a Grand final since 1995, when the ladies started up.
For our girls it will be our 9th Grand final in a row. We have won 7 Premierships and Runners up also on 7 occasions. Our record verses Easts is two from two this season, With a huge 52-19 win in April and a much closer result in July 22-18. Good luck ladies, go get ‘em.
This year we have had 130 players pull in a jersey for Uni. Fourty seven have played 1st XV and of that total 16 made their 1st grade debut.
A few milestones achieved last week, with another hooker scoring 3 tries in Sean Hasegawa in 4th grade to bring up his 10th try as well as his 50 points.
Sam Renton reached his 50th career try, with a winning try to get 4ths into this week.
While on 4th grade a very proud record this year is only 1 bonus point scored against them the whole season.
First grade Colts are on a roll of 9 wins in row.
Patrick Calavassy, Captain of the 3rd XV, shall run on for his 50th club game at Concord Oval on Sunday.
And finally we have seven Uni boys selected in Australia ‘A’ to play Portugal next week. They are Harry Johnson-Holmes, Sam Talakai, Lachlan Swinton, Brad Wilkin, Tom Lambert, Folau Fainga’a and Bernie Foley the only back.
