We have been advised by the Sydney Rugby Union (SRU) and NSWRU that the 2020 SRU Premiership Club competition will commence on 18 July, with 13 rounds and 3 weeks of Finals, concluding with the Grand Final on 31 October. The preliminary format is to include 13 teams (pending Penrith and Newcastle’s ability to meet minimum standards), all clubs to field a minimum of 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 1st Colts, whilst a decision on the remaining grades will be made over the next few weeks, based on each club’s ability to field teams. We have asked our players about their availability for this season and they have unanimously confirmed they are available and, therefore, we will be fielding the maximum number of grades and are asking all other clubs to consider the same. We have been assured Shute Shield matches will continue to be broadcast.
The women’s competition is run by a separate governing body, Sydney Women’s Rugby Union (SWRU) and they, along with NSWRU, have advised the Jack Scott Cup will be run concurrently with the Shute Shield.
The Club commenced formal rugby training last week, in groups of 10 and will continue to progress from these small groups as government restrictions allow. It is anticipated we will be able to re-commence full training in mid-June.
