It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John O’Gorman, a beloved member of our community, who left us on 23rd December. Dr. O’Gorman was a remarkable individual whose contributions to both the medical field and the world of sports will be remembered for generations. 

Born on June 1, 1936, in Sydney, NSW, John O’Gorman was not only a distinguished doctor but also an exceptional athlete. He played a pivotal role in the Sydney University Football Club (SUFC), leading the team to victory in two premierships in 1961 and 1962 (defeating Drummoyne and Randwick 6-0 & 14-0 respectively) and was SUFC’s 54th Wallaby. His athletic prowess on the rugby field was matched by his dedication and skill in his medical career. 

Dr. O’Gorman’s rugby career was illustrious. He played 18 Tests for the Australian Wallabies, touring South Africa twice and participating in the 1966-67 Wallaby tour of Britain and France. Known for his speed, technique, and leadership, he was a formidable presence on the field, inspiring his teammates and earning the respect of his opponents. 

Beyond his sporting achievements, Dr. O’Gorman was a compassionate and dedicated physician. His commitment to his patients and his community was unwavering, and he made significant contributions to the medical field throughout his career. His legacy as a doctor and a sportsman will continue to inspire those who knew him. 

Dr. John O’Gorman is survived by his loving family, friends, and countless individuals whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we celebrate his life, we remember a man of great talent, kindness, and dedication.
