We are proud to see two former SUFC representatives involved in the 2020 Olympics.
One of SUFC’s most decorated players, Tom Carter, who is the Head of Athlete Performance for the Australian Women’s 7s team will be heading to Tokyo with the team in the hope of defending their title. Tom played 240 Grade games for the Club, including appearing in 13 Grand Finals, 10 Premierships, over his 18 year career in the blue and gold. Tom’s career also included 76 games for the Waratahs as well as appearances for Aussie 7s. Tom also spent three years as the Club’s High Performance Manager.
Former SUFC Head Coach (1999-2000), Anthony Eddy will be with Ireland’s Mens 7s team in his role as Director of Sevens Rugby. A role he has been in since 2014. Anthony has spent much of his coaching career in Australia. He coached the Australia under-20 national rugby union team. Anthony was General Manager of rugby sevens for the ARU from 2013 to 2014, a position that involved developing the Australia national rugby sevens teams for the upcoming 2016 Olympics and building the annual Aussie 7s tournament. He also worked as an assistant coach in Super Rugby for the ACT Brumbies and the Queensland Reds.
We wish both Tom, Anthony and their teams the best of luck in Japan!
