Buildcorp and Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) are proud to announce the extension of its partnership for another two years, marking a monumental 34-year partnership that has played an instrumental role in shaping grassroots rugby in Australia.
Since the partnership began, Buildcorp has been a dedicated supporter of SUFC’s men’s rugby program. Over time, the sponsorship has expanded to include the club’s women’s, juniors and wheelchair rugby teams, underscoring Buildcorp’s commitment to fostering development pathways for players across all levels.
Tony Sukkar AM, Managing Director of Buildcorp has deep roots with SUFC. As a former player, Tony’s passion for rugby and dedication to the club have played a key role in strengthening this partnership. During his time at SUFC, Tony contributed significantly to shaping the club’s strong foundations on and off the field, embodying the spirit of the club.
“We are incredibly proud to continue our support of the Sydney University Football Club, a partnership that has flourished over more than three decades,” said Tony Sukkar AM. “At Buildcorp, we believe in nurturing strong, supportive communities, and the club’s commitment to inclusivity and excellence aligns perfectly with both our company’s and personal values.”
Josephine Sukkar AM, Principal of Buildcorp, has also been integral in building the foundation of this partnership. Her relentless efforts in supporting not only Australian sports but SUFC’s pursuit of excellence have been invaluable, helping shape the future of the club, evident in being a driving force behind the SUFC Women’s program becoming world renowned.
“The club’s growth, from grassroots to elite levels in men’s, women’s, and wheelchair rugby, speaks to the dedication of players, coaches, and volunteers,” said Josephine Sukkar AM. “We’re excited to continue contributing to this legacy and to the development of rugby talent across all areas of the game.”
The Sukkar family’s involvement with SUFC extends to their son, Jordan Sukkar, Buildcorp’s Chief Operating Officer, who is a proud pathway player and 2016 club captain. Jordan’s club first leadership embodies values that both Buildcorp and SUFC share.
SUFC is equally proud of its enduring partnership with Buildcorp, which has provided vital support as the club strives for excellence. David Lyons, President and former Premiership player of Sydney University Rugby Club, praised the partnership: “Buildcorp’s 34-year commitment to the Sydney University Rugby Club – the longest grassroots sponsorships in Australia – has been transformative. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in the success of our club, both on and off the field. As a former player and now president, I’ve seen firsthand how Buildcorp’s partnership has driven excellence, built lifelong relationships, and created opportunities far beyond the game. This partnership has set a benchmark for grassroots investment in sport and left an enduring legacy that we are incredibly proud to uphold.”
Over the 163 year history, SUFC has seen remarkable progress across all its teams, with over 200 players earning higher honours with the Junior Wallabies, Australian Sevens, Wallaroos, and Wallabies. The 2024 season marked a significant milestone for the club’s wheelchair rugby team, who secured the National League Championship.
With the continued support of Buildcorp and other partners, SUFC’s future is even brighter. Both the men’s, women’s and wheelchair teams are thriving, and this partnership has not only bolstered the club’s competitive standing but also fostered a culture of teamwork, inclusivity and development.
