Congratulations to Al ‘Mus’ Ryan who plays his 100th Grade game this weekend against Southern Districts in 4th Grade.
Joining the Club in 2011, Al played two years in Colts before making his 1st Grade debut in 2013. He played in back-to-back Henderson Shield Grand Finals with 3rd Grade in 2013 & 2014, winning in the later year.
Al was part of many of the Club’s 150th year Celebrations in 2013 including the SUFC v World University Barbarians match and the Reenactment match played at the ANZ Stadium during the third British & Irish Lions test, plus the UK tour.
In 2015, Al was Club Captain along with fellow teammate Benn Melrose, the same season he helped 2nd Grade to Premiership success over Randwick.
Al’s Grand Final successes continued with a second 3rd Grade title in 2016, and a second Colin Caird Shield title in 2017 when 2nd Grade dominated Eastwood at North Sydney Oval.
Al spent 2018 & 19 overseas in the UK playing and coaching in London before returning to Sydney and the Students in 2020. In 2021 he was on track for his century before COVID called time on the season.
Al is one of only a few players to have played in every grade in the Club, including 26 1st Grade games. A true stalwart of the Cub and the longest serving current player at SUFC.
Congratulations Mus, we got you there in the end! Enjoy your day!
